One Caribbean Voice

Artistic Director’s Note

A Caribbean Classic.

De Caribbean Man

One race (de Caribbean man)
From de same place (de Caribbean man)
Dat make de same trip (de Caribbean man)
On de same ship (de Caribbean man)
So we must push one common intention
Is for a better life in de region
For we woman, and we children
Dat must be de ambition of de Caribbean man
De Caribbean man, de Caribbean man.

So, we just Concluded CARIFESTA XV and we have so much in common.

So Bajans declare Every cloth got it customer.

Guyanese tell yuh Every “mouldly” biscuit got it voom voom cheese!

Then again, in every Caribbean space You might hear Every dog got ‘e day!

In Jamaica - Every dog got ‘e day and … Every puss ‘e four o’clock!

Well, when yuh study it Every sow got he ‘Saturdy,’

The spirit of the Caribbean is in the atmosphere, and all my memories of Jamaica School of Drama are revived! I heard the varied accents echoing similar thoughts. It gave birth to the title of this year’s show! Every Dog Got ‘e Day!

I have confidence that Asha, Janine, Vilmore, Samud and Kraigg (the new kid on the stage) under the directorship of Angelo will continue to titillate you with their talent, their wit, and their spunk! The fun, the laughter and the satire will explode during the production of Every Dog Got ‘e Day!

The technical team under the new management of Duane will complement the work on stage work. Judy and the Front of House team will welcome you, the audience, with consistent flair and enthusiasm. Thank you, cast and crew, for your dedication and commitment!

In this our 41st year, it is with pride that we can bring to the Barbadian public   this two-hour traverse across our stage. We  look at ourselves and reflect on past events and comment on current behaviours. As we leave the LESC we can happily say we have certainly laffed it off!

Enjoy,

Cecily
